Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney injured his foot in the team's loss to San Diego on Sunday. Initial reports were that he would only miss a couple of weeks, but a more severe condition was discovered in the foot, and now the team has placed him on IR meaning he is gone for the season.
The injury bug has bitten the champion Colts hard and often this season. The biggest blow came when all-everything receiver Marvin Harrison bruised his left knee. Then left-tackle Tony Ugoh, the man charged with covering Peyton Manning's blind-side, went down with a hurt neck. And Manning lost another key weapon when tight end Dallas Clark suffered a concussion and had to miss the San Diego game.
The injuries have begun translating into problems for Manning, who threw six interceptions in the San Diego loss. Of course Indy still had a chance to take that game late, but Adam "Money" Vinatieri missed what would've been a game-winning field goal. Manning's irritation was evident after the loss, when he could be seen on the sidelines mouthing the words "We shouldn't have called a time-out" (in reference to a time-out Tony Dungy called right before the field goal try, which may or may not have thrown Vinatieri off).
Funny, but I feel no sympathy whatsoever for the Colts or Peyton Manning. Maybe it's because I'm so tired of Peyton's new career as a ubiquitous TV pitch-man. "Been rocking this hair-do since I was five." Oh, you're so self-deprecating Peyton. "Cut that meat." And the Saturday Night Live appearance everyone thought was so funny. Please. This guy's got about as much personality as a fire hydrant. Give me Tom Brady any day. Yeah, he may be boring too, but at least he goes out with supermodels.
As for Freeney's injury...thankfully the Colts have signed Simeon Rice to take his place. Simeon Rice? What, they couldn't talk Charles Haley into coming out of retirement? Colts are screwed.

Is Manning Derangement Synd... (Below threshold)1. Posted by HughS | November 15, 2007 12:11 PM | Score: 0 (0 votes cast)
Is Manning Derangement Syndrome going to be the prevailing theme of all posts on the Colts here at Wizbang Sports?
Or can we expect the new Wizbang Sports to evolve into a cult of celebrity just because Tom Brady dates hot models?
Here's an idea for a post:
The Bill Belichick Film Festival
I'll be waiting for the biting critique of the Pats when they stumble.
