A-Rod Contract Questioned by Overpaid, Failed Anchor?

This one is kind of tough for me as I have a bit of trouble with any baseball player getting $30 million a year while field-level seats at Yankee Stadium cost over $400. Newsbusters has the full story. But when you consider the source in this, it is beyond laughable.

Katie Couric, the "CBS Evening News" anchor who is paid $15 million a year for sinking ratings, can't seem to grasp the concept of free markets in sports.

In an interview with New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, Couric questioned his new record-setting contract. The deal includes $275 million over 10 years and another $30 million in incentives, according to ESPN.

"Your new contract is worth $300 million-plus," Couric told Rodriquez, asking, "Are you worth it? Is any player worth that kind of salary?"

Unbelievable. Couric makes $15 million a year by demonstrating daily the skill set of any reasonably articulate 15 year old. Given that CBS Evening News' ratings have only fallen further on her watch; it's fair to say that she isn't particularly good at that.

Rodriguez is 32 years old. He has 518 home runs, 1503 RBI and 2250 hits. He is on track to becoming one of the greatest the game has ever seen. Couric is nothing more than an ill-advised, very expensive, PC experiment.

But don't you understand? Katie is a journalist. By definition, she's the savior of humanity. Her hard-hitting style of "truth to the people" journalism proves it. Just ask her!

$15mil a year is chicken feed.

"Are you worth it? Is any player worth that kind of salary?"

I guess that's her idea of a "curveball question". Too bad it's more like a hang-'em-and-bang-'em question...
