If you watched the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors last night, you certainly might have been reminded of that fateful day that the Redskins pummeled the Broncos 42-10.
The quarter-by-quarter breakdown is very similar.
The Spurs won the first quarter by two. The Broncos won the first by ten.
The Spurs won the third quarter by one. The Broncos tied the third quarter.
The Spurs won the fourth quarter by three. The Broncos lost the fourth by seven.
The common denominator of course was the train wreck second period/quarter.
The Redskins scored five unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter. This was partially because Washington quarterback Doug Williams played the single best game of his career at the perfect time. But the Broncos helped with zero ability to run and multiple turnovers.
Last night the Spurs ended the first with a one point lead but did not score again until the 5:06 point in the second. San Antonio's second quarter shooting was an atrocious 4-for-17 resulting in a season low 12 point quarter. Couple this with turning the ball over eight times and go to the half down by 16.
Like the Broncos before them, the Spurs would have won without that second quarter. Of course, if a bullfrog had wings.....
